And “perfection” is the word that comes to mind when describing Ian Berry`s work, which stood out among so many tributes paid to Senna in two decades.
It’s amazing to think that, from old pieces of jeans (I picked out myself a few of the items that he used in the original artwork!) he could make something so impressive. My mother, my grandmother, me and everyone else in the family were very moved when the picture was unveiled to us here, in São Paulo.
Ian’s piece is a perfect likeness of the Ayrton Senna who’s an idol for millions of people.
But, in a way only a true artist could capture, it also depicts the Beco who will live forever in our hearts.

‘’I remember playing a racing game and we all wanted to be Senna, I was only ten in 1994, but I remember. In later life I realized that he was an icon that transcended the sport of motor racing and is one of the greatest icons of the 20th Century and his legacy lives far into the 21st’’.
Contributing to the unique details of Senna’s portrait Berry notes: “I think it is beautiful that it is created out of jeans from his own family. They have carried on his legacy with care and made real his wishes to help the children of Brazil by founding the Instituto Ayrton Senna after Senna died in 1994.’’
