LET'S TALK ABOUT JEANS

A cultural and fashion icon: Immerse yourself in the world of indigo and denim!

Ian Berry has been included in the new book about jeans and denim, Let’s Talk About Jeans created by his friend, Dr. Tanja Roppelt. The 128 page German language book created by the curator of the Levi Strauss Museum in Buttenheim, Germany, covers much of the story of this famous garment and is also launched to mark the 25th anniversary of the museum that is in the birth home of Levi Strauss, then, Löb Strauß born February 26, 1829 in the Bavaria’s Franconia region.

Ian Berry’s page of 6 including his portrait of Levi Strauss.

While covering the history the book also features many interviews with people involved with denim as well as the museum including Berry’s friends, quilter Ben Venom, denim collector Ruedi Karrer (better known as the Swiss Jean Freak), Wouter Munnichs (Long John) and Levi Strauss Historian Tracey Panek as well as her predecessor, author Lynn Downey.

The book is published by Hirmer and Dr. Tanja Roppelt worked alongside Dr. Michaela Breil to create it over the past few years.

For over 150 years, jeans have accompanied people from all over the world through life. Their personal biographies are closely interwoven with the history and image of the blue trousers: as this publication demonstrates in text and images, they stand for rebellion, freedom, eternal youth, individuality, and robustness.

DESCRIPTION

Since their origins in the gold rush camps of California, jeans have become an integral part of the fashion world. Stars and starlets adorned themselves with them; they were a coveted and collectible item. A wide variety of youth cultures and political movements have utilized their symbolism. Across ages, social classes, and cultures, they are not just an everyday companion for each wearer, but also a canvas for personal memories. Above all, the blue trousers have always remained one thing: authentic. This publication celebrates this uniqueness in the fashion world.

Even the introduction to the subject matter on the first few pages, which are dedicated to advertising, is interesting and entertaining because, as is the case throughout the book, it is richly illustrated. It is a true journey through time, from the invention of jeans to the present day.
